Cake shows

I really should be doing dishes and laundry and organizing, but decided to blog instead. I have been watching these "cake shows" on Food Network and TLC. The boys and I watched a "Cake Boss The Next Great Baker" marathon yesterday. Does anyone else share my obsession?

I tried my hand a cake decorating a few years ago. It is fun but making icing can be quite a mess. Thinking of going back to it now that I am staying home. Here are a few of my favorites I have made.

2011 Conquer the Clutter

Happy New Year! Did you make any resolutions? I want to conquer the clutter and organize. We're close to starting the 6th year in this house. I just finally got curtains for our bedroom. We've painted every room in the house except one. So what to do now? Organize!

Since both boys have started school, I feel like there is a constant flow in of papers, projects, and assorted junk! It is hard to decide what to pitch and what to keep. When Alex was in preschool, I started a container of papers in the basement that are scrapbook worthy. (if I ever get around to scrapbooking, that is). I read somewhere to start a box for each child and put all the papers in it for the year, then go through it at the end of the year to decide what to keep. I may try this but will probably end up doing my week to week pitch approach.

I also have a room of doom. Don't you? It was formerly our office but became my office/room that I throw odds and ends when visitors come over after Jeff made an office in the basement. Chase also sleeps in there when I babysit. I am working to make that into a nice usable workspace.

Well, I'd better stop blogging and get to organizing. Wish me luck. I may need someone to rescue me from the piles of stuff.

Weekend Fun

We had quite a busy weekend. Saturday the boys finished their trains at Lowe's. We've gone to the Build and Grow workshops the past three Saturdays. These workshops are awesome and free! Here is Jared posing with his finished product.

Also borrowed my MIL's bread maker and made my first loaf of bread this weekend. It was tasty! Jeff doesn't think it will be much of a money saver.

Sunday we went to the Christmas Traditions Festival in historic St. Charles. We met lots of historical characters and the boys got a trading card from each one. The characters paraded down Main Street and then did a skit.

After the parade, we traveled to see Jeff play his last hockey of the year at the Rec Plex. We ended our busy weekend with the Scouts. Christmas caroling and hot chocolate!

Restart

Hello! Anybody out there? Over a year without a post, I am seriously fail. Had some changes the last two months. After working for 13 years, I am now officially a stay at home mom. A bit scary for me but will seriously help the family and my stress level. It has been very nice.

As a result of a reduced income I've started couponing and following several coupon blogs. I am trying to figure out the "deals". If you have any good info, let me know!

This month the boys have gotten into building with wood! We have attended the Lowe's Build and Grow workshops on Saturday mornings. This Saturday they will complete a 3 car wooden train.

Well, I'd better get back to my Christmas present wrapping. Only one week until St. Nick!

New Cousin Chase

Our cousin Chase is finally home from the hospital after a very rough start. He is a little miracle! Alex and Jared were excited to meet him for the first time!

Last blog before bed...

Last of the summer updates. Jeff painted my dining room (thanks honey)! I feel like a grown up now with my own dining room (thanks to Grandma Lueddecke for the furniture). We labored over Labor day weekend and painted the great room, foyer, hall and stairwell.

We also welcomed our newest cousin, Chase Michael in August. Boys finally got to visit Chase last week. Pictures to come.... I'm ready for sleep.
